Season for Nonviolence: Day 13

Day 13: February 11

The thought for today is CREATIVITY.

People hear the word ‘creativity’ and immediately think of those who are artists, musicians, writers, and performers. From the conversations I’ve had, I know that most don’t consider themselves as creative.

“I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.”

“I couldn’t draw a straight line if my life depended on it.”

“I can’t dance; I have two left feet!”

How many times have you said or heard someone make those kinds of statements? If I challenged you today to be more creative, chances are you would have no idea which way to turn.  Know that you ARE a creator. Every moment of every day, you are co-creating your life. You have the will and the capacity to decide who and how you will be in the world. You decide what you are going to do at any time, whether consciously or subconsciously. Actually, that’s primarily why you feel you aren’t creative; you are living too much of your life subconsciously. You do things because of habit or tradition and you think in certain ways because it’s conventional. Have you ever driven your car across town and were surprised when you reached your destination because you didn’t remember most of your trip? You were driving from habit and only aware enough of what you were doing to keep yourself from getting into an accident. But you were not consciously and mindfully driving your vehicle.

For as much as you might have made choices and taken action out of habit, there have been times that you were listening to your creative impulses and didn’t realize it. Have you ever had an ‘a-ha!’ moment? Have you ever suddenly grasped an idea or a truth without reasoning it out? Maybe you thought outside the box and were able to come up with a new solution to a challenge or a different way of seeing something. Perhaps you felt an intuitive response to a situation. It was in these moments that you connected with your creativity.

Albert Einstein said, “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

We, along with Divine Spirit, are co-creators of our lives. Creativity has less to do with trying to mentally conceive something new as it does with letting go and stepping into the flow of Divine Spirit, allowing It to communicate through you. God is the Source of all Wisdom; thus, creativity isn’t so much about thinking as it is about listening. Give Spirit the room to live in you and through you. As you consciously work with the Sacred Presence, you can create a life that makes a difference. Your very life is your greatest creative achievement.

You are, after all, an original; a real masterpiece.

I will quiet myself, be still, and allow the Sacred Presence to speak to me. I listen with my mind and my heart. What are my intuitive instincts telling me? Do I have a ‘gut feeling’ about something? As I hear God speak, I take action and become part of the Divine Spark. I am the eyes and ears, hands, and feet of God in the world. God moves in me and through me to reveal to the world the Peace and Love it seeks so desperately.

About Rev. Rebecca

After 30 years of trying to avoid God, I finally gave up playing Jonah and answered Love's call to service by becoming an ordained New Thought minister. Since that day in 2007, I've counseled a lot of people, performed some weddings, been a publiic speaker, and done some non-profit board work. Opportunities for service are presenting themselves in new ways for the coming year and I look forward to more of Love unfolding in my life.
